Fireplace ethanol's technical name is SDA-3C which is 200 proof ethanol mixed with 5-6% isopropyl alcohol. The isopropyl is added to create a bright orange flame otherwise pure ethanol doesn't have a bright visual flame. The reagent grade is made of ethanol (89%), methanol (4-5%), isopropyl (4-5%), so it doesn't quite match the formulation of SDA-3C fireplace fuel; but it's close. We cannot say beyond a doubt this would work in a fireplace and present a nice visual flame but you have landed on a product that very closely matches fireplace fuel with exception to the methanol. We don't know if the methanol will improve the visual flame or xxxx it. I wish we could be of more assistance on this question but I hope this help you make a decision.
