8" is the OD of the lid itself. This lid can fit on a container with an ID as small as 6.5" and an OD as large as 7.75". We would not recommend using it on a container that is 8", it will be too hard to properly center the lid and will most likely result in the lid being sucked into the container. For an 8" container, we would recommend a 10.75" lid with our universal gasket (see link below). If you need other hardware configurations on this lid, please contact our team at 331-281-0154.
